Herbal Medicine with Kat Kool, MAcOM

The foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is built on more than 2500 years of medical practice. TCM encompasses herbal medicine, acupuncture, tuina massage, diet therapy and qi gong exercise.

Examining the tongue and feeling the pulse are two important diagnostic methods in TCM. The tongue is sectioned into a map corresponding to various organ and meridian systems of the body. The color, coat and marks may reveal problems in the related areas. Palpating the pulse on both wrists at different levels will display several characteristics, indicating certain patterns in the patient’s health. These two principal diagnostic methods, along with other important information will assist the practitioner in formulating a treatment plan. Chinese herbs will often be a part of treatment in the process of a patient’s healing.

Herbal medicine assists in treating a wide range of health conditions. Formulas are made up of individual herbs that work harmoniously together to not only address specific symptoms, but can also treat the root cause of the symptoms. As one’s symptoms change, the herbal formula will often be adjusted to correspond with the improvements and shift in the disharmony.
